The diorama box is made of carboard, covered with textured paper, and then painted a dusty lavender using velvety acryla gouache paint. With the lid closed, the box measures roughly 3.75 x 2.75 x 1.25 inches. This is not a print, but a one-of-a-kind original painted papercraft creation.
Bryana Says I wanted the central image for this diorama box to be the old white and yellow VW van that was our family vehicle for many years of my childhood when my family lived in Turkey. When I remember the road trips my family took in that van, I recall having feelings of mild trepidation about routes that felt precarious to me. Turkey is a mountainous country, and at least back in the 90s and 2000s, many of the roads we traveled along steep and narrow passes were in poor repair and inadequately reinforced. In childhood, few things really felt dangerous in the sense that anyone could die, but looking back on those roads today all but whitens my knuckles. So many things were like that, weren't they? In childhood we were threading our way through dangers we didn't even know about. Some of them gave us our fondest memories. That's what I wanted to put into this piece.
