THE TERMITES
Termites don't know how terrified they make us. Like most settlers, they are simply looking out for their civilization. Go into any termite home and you'll hear an old story: tough times, knowing our history, hard work. “Heritage” Mama Termite tells the public radio man tartly, “is something our people take pride in.” She excuses herself to stir cotton ball soup and put a hot paper pie on the table. Papa Termite points. “Build this house with our blood,” he says. “Young folks ain't got a clue.” Mama pats his shoulder. “But they're good kids,” she says. “Awful good kids.”
