THE STARFISH AND THE STAR
"I’m having the worst day" the starfish said to his good friend the star. He had been talking for some time and his head was in his hands. "And on top of all that" he said, "rent’s due on the first." The star said nothing. Four point three light years is a long way off. "I’m sorry," said a sea urchin coming out from under some kelp. "I couldn’t help overhearing your private conversation. May I sit here?" The starfish patted the small rock. For a long time the two of them sat there in the light the star made.
