About the Mandalina Tree Mandalinais the Turkish word for the small sunny mandarin oranges that glow on orchard branches in the dead of winter. I always associate them with Christmas and with generosity in cold times. These are not, as a rule, enormous trees—but anything can happen in stories. In my stories mandalina trees are big enough to build a home in and even fruit can have a face.
