ABOUT THIS LISTING This listing is for a handmade miniature paper theatre box accompanied by ten original handpainted watercolor illustrations that together tell the story of an alien who arrives in a strange and hostile world clutching a valuable relic from his interstellar travels: a bright five-pointed star.
The illustrations were painted with professional-grade watercolors on ultra-thick 600gsm 100% cotton Arches watercolor paper and can be loaded into the theatre box in sequential order through a slot in the top to tell the story of The Alien. The theatre box is made of chipboard, covered with textured paper, and then painted a bright alien green using velvety acryla gouache paint. With the lid closed, the box measures roughly 3.75 x 2.75 x 1.25 inches. No element of this build is printed. It is in its entirety a one-of-a-kind original handmade creation.
BRYANA SAYS Facing unfamiliar sights and unfriendly faces at every turn, The Alien in this story becomes increasingly frightened and distressed at his reception on an unfamiliar planet, but ultimately finds meaning in the new landscape when he realizes that his unusual background has provided him with a unique capacity for life-saving work in a dangerous world.
The alien is a character I invented to come to terms with my upbringing as a third-culture kid, and to reflect my conviction that every traveler from a far-away place brings along something precious and even urgently necessary: a new paradigm, a different point of view.
