About This Listing
This listing is for a set of two beautiful 5x7 fine art prints that were created from high-quality scans of Bryana's original miniature watercolor paintings and the hand-lettered text of Sam's Song in a modified uncial script. The tiny, intricate watercolor paintings measure approximately 44 mm in diameter and the artwork is printed on two sheets of 340 gsm archival-quality textured watercolor paper measuring 5x7 inches. Each print is signed and labelled by the artist.

Bryana Says
For many years now, I have been dreaming about creating a little set of illustrations for Sam's Song in the Orc-Tower as it appears in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Two Towers." This lyrical declaration of stubborn hope comes from a place of murky darkness and desperation, when Sam Gamgee is alone in the fearful land of Mordor, fruitlessly searching for the captured Frodo. It is in this tumultuous, lonely, and muddled situation that Sam composes these verses celebrating indomitable, clinging courage – a poem which has long been one of my favorites of Tolkien's lyrics.

In seeking out models for my rendering of The Shire, I ended up choosing the view from the kitchen window of my favorite childhood home, located in a remote village in the Middle East (where I lived until I was fifteen). The tree located outside the hobbit-hole in the painting is an oak tree under which I and my siblings spent many happy hours painting, reading and picnicking, so this piece is special to me in a personal way.

Text
In western lands beneath the sun
the flowers may rise in spring,
the trees may bud, the waters run,
the merry finches sing.
Or there maybe 'tis cloudless night
and swaying beeches bear
the elven-stars as jewels white
amid their branching hair.

Though here at journey's end I lie
in darkness buried deep,
beyond all towers strong and high,
beyond all mountains steep,
above all shadows rides the sun
and stars for ever dwell:
I will not say the day is done,
nor bid the stars farewell.
