ABOUT THIS LISTING
This is an unframed archival fine art print on Moab's Natural Rag paper. The print measures 6x5 inches and comes with a printed and signed certificate of authenticity. It is a 2D rendering of the first of two handmade paper theatres I created in 2026 thanks to funding from the Ordinary People project on Kickstarter. Kickstarter backers received these prints in the mail, and there are only six additional prints available for non-backers.

(Please note that only the first three listing photos show the print. The other photos show the handmade original 3D watercolor tunnel book/paper theatre that is the basis for this scanned 2D print.)

The original paper theatre will be auctioned in late 2026 as part of the William Allen Arts Alliance's biennial Small Works Auction. All proceeds from that auction will benefit arts programming for an under-funded high school in my local area.

ABOUT THIS PIECE
"Ordinary People" was a small crowd-funded project aimed at the creation of some new painted paper sculptures celebrating the power of ordinary people to rescue what we love & resist authoritarianism. One concept that really persisted in my mind throughout many rounds of scribbles and sketches was the human ability to unite with unlikely partners when a time-sensitive crisis demands immediate action. At a time when intensely-felt divisions seem to threaten the very stability of our planet as a habitat compatible with a future for humanity, this ability to transcend differences in pursuit of a livable world for our children seems to me to be not just a heartwarming idea but an absolutely vital survival skill.

One of the themes I wanted to explore as part of this project was the
cooperative capacity of ordinary people faced with the possible destruction of something beloved, and I decided on a forest fire as a framing image for the concept. This visual resonates with me in the context of the ecological crisis currently reshaping life on Planet Earth, and also feels appropriate given the number of times I've heard people use the word "fire" to describe the trajectory of things in 2025-2026. Fire as in, "dumpster fire," "the world's on fire," and "we didn't start the fire." Because who started the fire is certainly important, but it's an issue that will never hold a candle to the question of who is doing their darndest to put it out.
