About This Painting
Are there things you suspect you believe smack dab in the middle of your soul, but you’re not allowed to? Sometimes I find it so very difficult to let myself know what I know, and if you come from a certain background, you might relate. Unfortunately, with their tendency to embrace hierarchies and practices of coercive control, religious institutions and tightly-knit traditional communities have the potential to do spectacular damage to our ability to be truthful with ourselves. In this mini seascape, I wanted to evoke the freedom & the clean, unbounded joy I have found in unhitching my life from beliefs and systems I couldn’t cling to any longer without doing violence to my integrity. Has it happened to you? You hung on for so long by your fingernails to something you thought you had to believe even if it killed you—and it almost did. But when you let go, you did not wake up in hellfire. You were resting easy in the everlasting arms. And God was laughing. And laughing. And laughing. The sun, perhaps, is going down on your life. You have not got much time left. But what a sunset it is going to be!
About This Listing
This is a 3x5 studio gouache painting completed on professional-grade watercolor paper mounted to a cradled wooden panel 1.5 inches thick. To protect the water-based gouache paint from moisture, the painting has been lovingly treated with a three-step varnishing process consisting of a spray varnish suitable for water-based media, an isolation coat, and two coats of UV-resistant gloss varnish. The basswood panel has been sealed with buffed finishing wax to increase its longevity, and a signed label affixed to the back certifies its authenticity and specifications. The painting has already been glued into a custom poplar frame handmade by a local craftsman. Including the frame, the full dimensions of this piece are just under 4x6x2 inches.
I do my very best to make sure my scans and photographs provide accurate representations of my artwork, but please do be aware that due to monitor differences the colors you see on your screen may vary slightly from the way the colors appear in person.
