ABOUT THIS LISTING This listing is for an original miniature matchbox diorama box scene painted with professional-grade watercolors on 100% cotton Arches watercolor paper and assembled using archival-quality adhesive. The box is a real matchbox painted a gentle baby blue using velvety acryla gouache paint. The external portion of the matchbox measures roughly 1.4x2.x0.5 inches. This is not a print, but a one-of-a-kind original painted papercraft creation.
ABOUT THE PIECE I've been somewhat obsessed with oystercatchers since first witnessing them on a regular basis while living in York, England in 2020 (the Eurasian species, of course). I find their call deeply haunting and even named a published poetry collection after them ("Summer of the Oystercatchers," Fernwood Press, 2025). In 2024, I had the opportunity to witness a pair of American Oystercatchers along with their two chicks at North Wildwood on the Jersey Shore. It was an unforgettable experience and inspired the creation of this tiny papercraft scene.
