What are the Tales From the Mandalina Tree?

The Tales From the Mandalina Tree are a collection of whimsical illustrated stories, poems, vignettes, & comics delivered to patrons every other month in a digital format or via the postal service depending on the tier you select over on Patreon. For the most part, these are stand-alone creations written and illustrated by me every two months, and you won’t need to have access to past installments in order to fully enjoy them. In the possible event of a serial or two-part story, you'll receive everything in its proper order!

Are the Tales From the Mandalina Tree for children?

It depends! Part of the impetus behind the Tales is my belief that adults deserve beautifully-illustrated stories and poems too—stories that don't shy away from the heartbreak and complexity of the grown-up world. Inspired by that principle, my work is created with a primarily adult and teen audience in mind. However, many of the Tales can be enjoyed by younger children. I encourage parents and guardians to assess their appropriateness on a case by case basis.


I have a paid Patreon membership to the Tales. When can I expect to receive my installments?

First of all, thank you so so much for subscribing to the Tales From The Mandalina Tree via my membership program on Patreon! I create six Tales annually, and patrons qualify to receive one after every two months of membership. Patreon charges all subscribers on the same day of the month they originally signed up, so if you sign up on August 15th, you'll be charged on August 15th and then again on September 15th. At that point you'll have qualified to receive your first installment of the Tales! If you're an Orange Juice tier member, you can expect to receive the PDF on or around October 1. If you're a Tern Journeys or Whale Song member, your mailing will be shipped out on or around October 1. As long as you keep your subscription, your selected payment method will then be charged on October 15 and November 15, qualifying you to receiving the installment that goes out on December 1, and so on.

If this mailing schedule is still confusing you, please don't hesitate to reach out! It's very important to me that patrons understand the system and feel confident about what they can expect from their membership.


I'm a member of the Orange Juice tier and I receive the Tales in a digital format. Can I share the file with my friends? 

Aaah, I'm so grateful to you for supporting the Tales in this way and so so happy that you want to share them with others! While Orange Juice tier members are welcome to share their digital versions of the Tales with immediate family members, I do ask that you not email the file outside your immediate family. My creative work is a tiny operation run entirely by myself, and I won't be able to continue making these complex, time-consuming, and intricate works of art unless they bring me a reliable income. The bills, unfortunately, don't pay themselves, so I do have to ask that you enjoy your digital versions of the Tales without distributing them. However, please DO let your friends know about this project and encourage them to sign up for a membership of their own. You can also purchase a membership for a friend, which would doubtless make both of our days.
