Bryana Says
Is your soul a country shaken by squalls, fretted by flurries of tragic knowledge? Are there frightening dusks there, and boiling seas? I can’t speak for you, but sometimes knowing what I know about the long and—God forbid— apparently-endless timeline of human suffering is too much for me. I spend a lot of time puzzling over how to stay tender towards the open wounds of the world without losing my mind. I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I’ll tell you the best thing I’ve come up with and it’s this: taking my small candle of Hopes out to the cliffs and taking my seat at the edge of the squall. Because grief needs to be faced head-on, not squished down. Because sorrow is a territory to be courageously traversed, not an enemy to be viciously trounced. But I can’t do it without my candle.
