She strokes her taut belly in a room with no windows
and it’s in that place I imagine the holy spirit is perched,
not dove this time but nightingale."
[Bryana Joy, from "Nightingale,"
the November 2020 Puzzle Pieces poem]

The more I study history, the more I adore Black women. As a group, they have carried the weight of heinous wrongs, and have faced the world's great darkness with astonishing courage. This painting seeks to honor that courage and to postulate that the stories that get hushed up in their time will be told loudly in eternity, and the people we didn’t treat as very important will be guests of honor. Also, it's about the way God is present with our sadness, like the little birds that make songs through the night.
Please allow 2-4 business days for this item to ship. Shipping is free within the United States and international shipping options for larger prints are now available (though expensive).
