I’m hitting the road tomorrow and will be traveling with limited internet access for awhile. Yesterday's sketch for #31DaysOfImpressionSketches was this painting of the Hardin-Simmons University Clock Tower on the @hsutx campus. Since I wasn't able to be on campus yesterday, I did this one using a gorgeous photograph by @apple2309 as reference. Okay, so the first of yesterday's two sketches didn't make it anywhere. But then I created my new pride and joy: this glowing depiction of the stained glass window in Logsdon Chapel at @hsutx. So I'm going to call it even. 😊 This one turned out to be a bit more than a sketch because I was anxious to capture the brilliant colors of the window in a way that didn't obscure its radiance and transparency, so I spent quite some time on this. I'm getting really attached to this shizen paper and how well it lends itself to playing with light and texture. . . Well, well. It's high-time to catch up on sharing #31DaysOfImpressionSketches! My sketch for Saturday was a first attempt at this lake and was rather a failure, ending up in the trash (it happens to all of us!) But Sunday was better and yielded this piece (another commission). When I first arrived in Abilene in 2014, this lake was bone-dry, exposing a cracked red bottom that looked like the surface of Mars. Look at Copernicus! 😊 And don't you just love the Spirit of Indepedence chasing the Greek athlete. 😂 I didn't plan that combination when affixing the stamps and had to laugh when I saw how it came out. . . This started as a rough impression of the Candies By Vletas chocolate shop but once I got into it, I decided to just play around with the colors and let my imagination go and I'm pretty fond of how it turned out.
